Olive

We think Olive is as 2 year old Australian cattle dog x Belgian Malinois mix , I brought Olive home in July of 2024 and let me tell you it was a wild ride. My mother and I had actually called animal control on Olive since she was roaming our neighborhood streets going up to multiple people begging for food.

I was able to catch her with a baggie of cat kibble and a groomers loop. Since she was as sweet as could be and actually let me carry her home, we figured she was someone’s pet gotten loose we held onto her for 11 hours where she completely stole our hearts. Wanting to do the right thing we turned her over to our local shelter absolutely convinced that someone was desperately looking for her and that the shelter would be one of the first places her owners would look.

When the animal control officer was taking her away, I made sure on that the shelter knew if her owners didn’t claim her she had a home with us. Due to Olive not being chipped her stray hold was only 3 days and on the second day I received a call confirming my interest which I assured the staff that when the hold was up we would be coming to bring her home. It wasn’t until after bringing Olive home that I was stopped by a neighbor who told me she also had tried to catch Olive and that Olive had escaped her yard twice during this neighbors rescue attempts.

I also found out the Olive used to live with a homeless encampment and when the police cleared out the encampment the owners just turned the dogs that had been living with them loose. Olive had been running on the streets with another dog a poodle mix for 3 weeks before her poodle mix friend was struck and killed on a road not far from where we originally found Olive.
